Ms. Emily comes from a large, musical, homeschooled family, and has been making music as long as she can remember. She began taking piano lessons at age 4, and later went on to earn a B.A. in Music from Coastal Carolina University in Conway, SC with a concentration on piano and music education. She is trained in the classical style, and that is primarily what she teaches, but she can also teach pop/contemporary styles.
She has 10 years of experience teaching private piano lessons and 3 years teaching voice {most recently with Bach to Rock in South Riding, VA and Rocky Mountain Academy of Music in Colorado Springs, CO}, and loves sharing the gift of music with all students.
Ms. Emily primarily uses the Piano Adventures series of method books, supplemented with other pieces depending on the needs of the student. She believes in giving each student a strong theory foundation, as well as technique, practice strategies, ear-training, and performance opportunities to become a well-rounded musician. But above all, she likes to make sure her students have fun, as it’s called playing music for a reason!
In her free time, she enjoys playing video games with her husband, having tea, reading, caring for her reptiles and houseplants, and spending time in nature. She is also a Notary Public for the State of Colorado!
